sequences from the ATP synthase gene — the rotary molecular motor running

✓ Do
Use mix-blend-mode:screen on every butterfly PNG in navigation and on dark backgrounds. Black becomes transparent. The butterfly appears.
✗ Don't
Never use a -large.png variant as a nav icon. These are 3–6 MB photorealistic illustrations. Nav icons use butterfly-gold-transparent.png only.
✓ Do
The subscriber butterfly is an inline SVG — no file, no transparency, no checkerboard. Zero image dependencies. Use the SVG directly in HTML for any context requiring the blue butterfly.
✗ Don't
Never add more butterflies to compensate for a broken one. Fix the context, not the count. One butterfly per track. No exceptions. The system holds its meaning through scarcity.
✓ Do
Use the greyscale butterfly (filter:grayscale(1) opacity(.55)) for the anonymous / Explore tier. The desaturation is semantic: form without revelation.
✗ Don't
Don't use the wrong color for the wrong track. The purple butterfly is never used for NOW content. The crimson butterfly never appears on the Champion card. Colors are not decorative — they are semantic.
